Defender® Thistle® Gutter Spikes will stop all birds from landing, sitting or nesting in your gutter. This is our specialist low-profile gutter spike which is virtually invisible from the ground. Gutters can easily block with a combination of fallen leaves, debris, old nesting material and bird guano caused by birds perching in and around the gutter. A blocked gutter can cause extensive damage to a property via water ingress and damp. Installing Defender® Thistle® Gutter will prevent this from happening by stopping birds from landing on the gutters, without hurting them, whilst also allowing for free rain water flow beneath.
What guttering would Defender® Thistle® Gutter Spikes fit?
The Defender® Thistle® Gutter Spike fits all standard modern gutters and hoppers. If they have a thick lip, are made of cast iron or have an ornate design on the front edge, it could cause stress to the clip. How do gutter spikes stop pigeons sitting in guttering?
This low-profile gutter spike has 3 clips attached, one at either end and one in the middle. The clips slip over the outer front edge of the guttering, whilst holding the Defender® strip centrally above the gutter, just above the bottom so allowing for free flow of rain water underneath.
Each strip has an impenetrable pattern of 80 pins which fan out, making it impossible for all birds to land or nest. The pins are only half the height of standard spikes at 62 mm high, so once installed, they are virtually invisible from the ground.

How to install Defender® Thistle® Gutter Spikes
The Defender® Thistle® Gutter Spike comes with 3 integral clips attached which are clipped over the outside edge of the gutter. No additional tools or adhesives are necessary. The Defender® Thistle® Gutter Spike is a very low profile alternative to keep all birds out of gutters and hoppers. The clips allow for quick removal when the gutter needs a clean. They can then be simply clipped back on.
Step 1 - Clean the Area: Gutters can fill quickly with fallen leaves, debris, even old nesting material and bird droppings so before installation, clear out the gutters. If there are a lot of droppings see our

Step 2 - Fixing: The Defender® Thistle® Gutter Spike fits all half-round or square plastic gutters or hoppers. Every strip has 3 preassembled clips - one at either end and one in the middle. These keep the Thistle® Gutter at the optimal height above the gutter bottom and the added central clip stope accessive bending. The clips slip over the front edge of the gutter, no force or extra adhesive is needed.
Step 3 - Positioning: Starting at one end, clip the Thistle® Gutter strips along the full length of the gutter leaving no gaps. The Thistle® will sit and 'hover' just above the bottom of the gutter allowing for an uninterrupted flow of rainwater.
Step 5 - Full Protection: If you need a shorter length to finish the row, there are snap points along the base of the Thistle® which can be snapped by hand to create shorter pieces. Ensure that at least one clip is attached to the smaller length for installation.
NOTE: If the guttering is ornate or has a thick lip the gutter clips may not fit over the edge. We would recommend using the
Defender® Thistle® and siliconing to the top of the lip or edge instead.
