Let's introduce our last but no means least, Defender® Installer of the Month winner for 2025 – the November winner is Elite Pest Solutions! We are ending the year on an excellent note. Congratulations to Chris Church on a standout installation that closes the year with real strength.

A closer look at the install that won the prize

Chris had a large project which he had been waiting several months to get the go-ahead. When it was finally booked in, of course, it coincided with the coldest days of the year yet! The job entailed a mix of netting and spiking for a local NHS property where steel works were installed to hold a new air handling unit. The construction company wanted to prevent the pigeons from perching and roosting from the get-go, as it’s a sensitive area. They opted for Elite to install a combination of netting on the underside and spiking on the cross beams. This meant installing a huge 120 metres of Defender® Wide Stainless Steel Spikes. Our wide stainless steel spikes are a trade favourite bird spike; they are made from 304 grade stainless steel as standard and come with a 25 year 'No Rust' warranty.

In situations such as these, every possible area that a pigeon could perch must be proofed, as this set-up provides the perfect roosting spot where the birds are protected from the elements with a clear view of potential predators and opportunistic feeding areas. If pigeons were allowed to settle in, the results are predictable – build-up of unhygienic nesting material, guano on the floors below, creating slip hazards and health and safety concerns. Not ideal in an NHS facility! As you can see, the results are spot on and look tidy and effective.

Let's discover how Chris found his path into pest control

Chris already has 18 years of experience in the industry, starting out working for a national company with whom he completed all his training for general pests and birds. He rose through the ranks to operations manager, overseeing over 30 techs, field biologists, surveyors and team leaders, managing a huge multi-million pound portfolio! Of course, he still managed to get out on the job whenever he could as this is the part all pest controllers enjoy. He continued on his learning journey by also working for a ground maintenance company and smaller local pest and bird companies. Pest and bird control varies so much day to day and solving issues and discovering causes is an incredibly rewarding part of the job.

Chris made the bold decision to set up Elite Pest Solutions earlier in 2025. He didn’t take this decision lightly; it was a long-standing plan that he had always had in the back of his mind. Starting your own business is always a massive risk, but one that is deeply rewarding. We think Chris is smashing it so far, and he is incredibly happy that he took the leap. Through his experience in working in the pest and bird control industry, he recognised a gap in the local market for residential pest control. Many pest controllers avoid this area, understandably preferring to concentrate on commercial pest control, which can provide higher value contracts, more predictable income and regular planned visits. Chris felt residential clients should also have access to good quality and affordable pest control backed with extensive experience.

This knowledge and expertise is what Elite Pest Solutions offers residents in the Peterborough and Cambridgeshire areas. Chris covers all aspects of pest and bird control, from rodents, moles, bedbugs, wasps, solar panel proofing, bird netting and of course, bird spiking using our Defender® bird spikes. Chris’s ultimate aim is to have happy customers. It is always rewarding to solve their pest and bird issues. The only challenge is trying to fit all the customers in so they are not waiting too long for the quality service that Elite provides.
