We are delighted to name Kaizen Pest Solutions Ltd as our Defender® Bird Spikes Installer of the Month for March, following a superb installation at a well known music venue in Putney, London, which has been undergoing full refurbishment. This project focused on protecting the front of a listed building that had experienced ongoing issues with pigeons roosting on the main fascia. The problem was affecting both the appearance of the property and the experience of customers visiting the venue. As with many older and more prominent buildings, the challenge was not only to solve the bird problem effectively, but to do so in a way that respected the character of the property and improved the appearance of customer facing areas.

Dave installed an impressive 350 metres of Defender® Wide Stainless Steel Bird Spikes across the fascia of the pub. Starting at the top of the building, he edged the rooftop parapet walls with wide spikes. In this case, protecting the edges was all that was needed to prevent guano from perching pigeons staining the front of the building.

This line of spike defence creates a barrier that stops birds from perching in positions where fouling can affect the fascia or customers below. Birds may still sit behind the protected line, but they will not cause the same problems. It is a strong example of how effective bird control can work alongside urban wildlife in a practical and considered way.

Dave was able to install our Defender® Steel Spikes with complete confidence. They are made from 304 stainless steel as standard, offering enhanced corrosion resistance and backed by a 25 year ‘No Rust’ warranty.

This is especially important on listed buildings such as this pub, where appearance is a key consideration before any work begins. No one wants rust stains on beautifully renovated cream cornicing and parapets, so choosing a high quality stainless steel product was essential.

Working down from the top of the building, Kaizen Pest Solutions Ltd proofed every ledge, from narrow cornicing and architectural detailing to the window ledges below. Where a ledge was wider than the 17.5 cm coverage of our wide spike, Dave installed two rows of interlocking spikes to ensure full protection.

The result is an excellent installation and a fine example of how to fit Defender® Wide Stainless Steel Bird Spikes correctly and professionally.

Effective Pigeon Proofing for Customer Facing Buildings

Since the installation was completed, there have been no signs of pigeons roosting on the front of the property or around the areas visible to customers, which was exactly the outcome the client had hoped to achieve.

There is nothing worse than the entrance to a well known London pub being covered in pigeon guano from birds perched above.
